APPENDIX A

SCHOLARLY AND LITERARY PERIODICALS

[These 72 periodicals, all of which have been examined and checked directly against the holdings of the libraries listed under each, range over Hungarian language and literature and subjects related to their study, and are classified from 1 to 4 in importance to literary research, in square brackets at the end of each citation. Besides bibliographical data, the following information is provided for each periodical in almost every case: (1) its subject matter, (2) its frequency of appearance, and (3) data about its history, editors, changes in titles, various series, etc.

The holdings are recorded in the manner of the Union list of serials in libraries of the United States and Canada, edited by Winifred Gregory, (New York: H. W. Wilson Co., 19432) and its many supplements. In some instances, direct examination of serial records or reports of searchers did not make possible accurate paralleling of volumes and years. In such cases, only the years are reported or both the years and volumes without a breakdown of years into those covered by volume numbers.]
